Detecting Clusters of Galaxies at High Redshift with the Spitzer Space Telescope

چکیده
We present an infrared adaptation of the Cluster Red-Sequence method. We modify the two filter technique of Gladders & Yee (2000) to identify clusters based on their R − [3.6] color. We apply the technique to the 4 degree Spitzer First Look Survey and detect 123 clusters spanning the redshift range 0.09 < z < 1.4. Our results demonstrate that the Spitzer Space Telescope will play an important role in the discovery of large samples of high redshift galaxy clusters.

Accurate Seds and Selection Effects for High-redshift Dusty Galaxies: a New Hot Population to Discover with the Spitzer Space Telescope?
The spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of dust-enshrouded galaxies with powerful restframe farinfrared(IR) emission have been constrained by a range of ground-based and space-borne surveys. The IRAS catalog provides a reasonably complete picture of the dust emission from nearby galaxies (redshift z ≃ 0.1) that are typically less luminous than about 10 L⊙. However, at higher redshifts, the obs...
متن کاملTHE REST-FRAME K-BAND LUMINOSITY FUNCTION OF GALAXIES IN CLUSTERS TO z = 1.3
We derive the rest-frameK-band luminosity function for galaxies in 32 clusters at 0:6 < z < 1:3 using deep 3.6 and 4.5 m imaging from the Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera. The luminosity functions approximate the stellar mass function of the cluster galaxies. Their dependence on redshift indicates that massive cluster galaxies (to the characteristic luminosityM K) are fully assembl...
متن کاملOptical and Infrared Non – Detection of the Z = 10 Galaxy behind Abell
Gravitational lensing by massive galaxy clusters is a powerful tool for the discovery and study of high redshift galaxies, including those at z≥6 likely responsible for cosmic re–ionization. Pelló et al. recently used this technique to discover a candidate gravitationally magnified galaxy at z=10 behind the massive cluster lens Abell 1835 (z=0.25). We present new Keck (LRIS) and Spitzer Space T...
متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملStudying Distant Infrared–Luminous Galaxies with Spitzer and Hubble
New surveys with the Spitzer space telescope identify distant star–forming and active galaxies by their strong emission at far–infrared wavelengths, which provides strong constraints on these galaxies’ bolometric energy. Using early results from Spitzer surveys at 24 μm, we argue that the faint sources correspond to the existence of a population of infrared–luminous galaxies at z & 1 that are n...
